Property taxes in Michigan are billed twice a year — summer and winter. The township treasurer handles collection during the initial payment window, then unpaid taxes roll over to the county.
Payment Deadlines
- Summer taxes: Due September 14. Bills go out in July.
- Winter taxes: Due December 14 without penalty. You can pay winter taxes through February 14 with a small penalty added.
- After February 14, all unpaid taxes are turned over to the Clare County Treasurer and additional penalties and interest apply.
How to Pay
- By mail. Send a check or money order to the Grant Township Treasurer at the township office. Include your tax bill stub.
- In person. Visit the township office during business hours. Cash, check, and money order are accepted.
- Online. Pay at bsaonline.com using a credit card, debit card, or e-check. Note: credit and debit card payments carry a 3% convenience fee. E-check fees are lower.
- Through your mortgage company. If your taxes are escrowed, your lender pays directly. Verify with your mortgage company that payments are being made on time.
What Happens If You Pay Late
- After the September or December deadline, a 1% penalty per month is added.
- After February 14, unpaid taxes transfer to the Clare County Treasurer at (989) 539-7801. At that point, additional interest and fees accumulate.
- After several years of non-payment, the property can go to tax foreclosure sale. Do not let it get to this point — contact the county treasurer to set up a payment plan if you are struggling.

- Partial payments are accepted by the township treasurer before the delinquency deadline.
